On days when energy use is expected to be highest, Dominion Energy will schedule Peak Time Rebate events. During these events, you can earn bill credits by conserving energy for a few hours. There will be about 10 events a year that each last around three or four hours.
You’re in charge

What is the Peak Time Rebates Program?
The Peak Time Rebates Program provides an opportunity to get rebates for using less energy when it is most in-demand. On specific days when we anticipate a strong demand for energy, we will notify participants, who can then choose to temporarily reduce their energy for three to four hours. In return, you will receive a rebate on your bill.
How does the program work?
Enrolled participants will receive a text or email letting them know when an event is planned. You can then choose how to shift your energy use during the event. If you reduce your energy use, you will get a rebate of $1.25 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) on your utility bill. See questions below to learn more about the timing of rebate payments.
What is a Peak Time event?
Peak Time events are planned when energy use is expected to be the highest. This is typically when the weather is very hot (summer afternoons) or very cold (winter mornings or early evenings.)
When do I find out when an event is happening?
You will receive a text or email letting you know when an event is planned.
How many Peak Time events should I expect and how long will they last?
We typically anticipate around 10 conservation events per year, though this number may vary depending on the number of days with high expected energy usage. Each event is expected to last no more than four hours. Event participation is completely voluntary, and there is no penalty for those who choose not to take part.
Is adjusting the temperature the only thing I can do to reduce energy?
No, there are many actions you can take to reduce energy. Each action has a different impact. When choosing to make any adjustments to your energy use, the health and safety of your household should be your first priority. See our checklists for ideas of what you can do before and during an event.
What if I don’t participate in an event?
Your participation is completely voluntary. While there is no penalty for lack of participation, if you don’t participate, you will not receive a rebate.
How are Peak Time Rebates calculated?
Your energy reduction during the Peak Time event hours will be compared to your average usage. You’ll receive $1.25 credit for every kilowatt-hour saved below that average.
Where can I find results from my participation in an event?
Results will be available in the program’s online customer portal.
Cumulative incentive calculations displayed in the customer portal are subject to Dominion’s third-party Evaluation, Measurement, and Verification (EM&V) vendor year-end review and verification.
When can I see the results of my steps to reduce energy?
Two days after an event, the results will be available in the program’s online customer portal.
How will I know if I earned a rebate?
You can check your rebate balance through the program’s online portal two days after the Peak Time event. All rebates will be paid annually in Q1 of each year, based on your cumulative energy savings for the previous year.
Please note if the account holder unenrolls from the program or the utility account is closed prior to the issuance of the bill credit, any unpaid incentives will be forfeited. No reconciliation process for incentives will be conducted.

Why didn’t I receive a rebate after I reduced energy use?
Your Peak Time Rebate is based on whether you used less than you normally use during those hours. So even if you didn’t use much energy during the Peak Time event, if you didn’t use less than you normally use, you won’t earn a rebate.
